Recent Events

Thanks to all who attended the AGM, it was great to see so many faces at what can be a chore but turned out to be a good social evening.
We welcome two new additions to the Committee, David Loveday and Kevin Treharne.

Again, members of the club supported the latest SEN SHED event in Southwater, with Kevin Hutson, Paul Edwards and Rob Bright Tutoring and Di Bright and Jean Whales supporting the event. Professional Turners Colwin Way and Stewart Furini were also Tutoring at this successful event, introducing young people with SEN to Woodturning.

In August members met on Ashdown Forest with professional photographer, Emma. We all learned a lot about lighting and backgrounds, with many photographs taken. Images can now be seen in the Gallery Page on this website.

On July 18th we welcomed Martin Saban-Smith to our club for an all day demonstration. A really successful day enhanced by a BBQ lunch.

Our May event was a club night where we had the lathes out and had a visit from a local wood supplier. A great night!

Our April Meeting was held on 16th April when we enjoyed an inspirational and entertaining demonstration from our club’s friend Stewart Furini.
Stewart spoke about Laser Cutting equipment and he demonstrated fluting and texturing between centres.

He went on to demonstrated various cutting attachments including Cup Cutters and fine ball rasps, finished with Pyrographic techniques. All of which would not be complete without colouring!

No smooth bottoms or brown wood to be seen here!

Our March meeting was held on 19th March when we welcomed Jubal Prevatte who gave a spirited demonstration using green Apple wood to produce an amazing thin bowl. As well as demonstrating woodturning skills Jubal shared some of his thoughts on turning and dealing with feedback! His use of tools was exceptional and his concept of using errors as learning opportunities and a chance to practice skills was especially re-assuring.
With an interesting insight into Jubal’s life growing up in Oregon US we had a thoroughly entertaing evening with a good turn out of Club members and guests.
